On this episode of the podcast, I'm reflecting on 2017! A practice I've gotten into in all aspects on my life is to reflect on the previous year before I head into the new year. This is a great way to look at where you've been, how far you've come, and to help set goals for the upcoming year.

During the episode, I talk about where I've been, highlights and lowlights of the year, how M.B.Om and my business has grown, what I've learned and more. I also share what's on the agenda for next year, and a couple of upcoming offerings that I am very excited to be launching!

Enjoy!

Gregory Ormson is a yoga teacher, writer, and a motorcycle enthusiast! On this unique episode of the podcast, Gregory and I chat about his story becoming a yoga teacher and what inspired him to create his signature program: Yoga & Leather.

Yoga & Leather is a unique offering based out of a Harley Davidson store in Arizona where Gregory teaches yoga to motorcycle riders. Gregory shares the links between riding motorcycles and yoga, including balance, mobility, and feeling relaxed while riding a bike that weighs so much more than you.

Gregory teaches at the Harley Davidson shop because this is a place where motorcycle riders feel comfortable. He does his best to make them feel comfortable in the setting, by allowing them to show up as they are. Gregory also teaches classes that are geared towards the muscles that are tighter from riding motorcycles and are geared towards people who don't normally practice yoga.

On this episode, Gregory and I discuss how to find a niche that you resonate with and how to pitch, market, and teach speciality classes to a very niche audience.

Enjoy!

On this Q&A style episode of the podcast, I answer a few of the questions that I've received throughout this season from listeners, fellow yoga teachers + 1-on-1 clients. This is short episode featuring 5 of the questions I get asked the most and that I think are the most important to address as a yoga teacher, particularly as a new yoga teacher.

We cover teaching for free and how you know when you should stop teaching for free, how to determine your maximum capacity for teaching each day + week, how to prevent burnout, when you can consider yourself a "real yoga teacher", and how you will know when you're ready to teach.

I pull from guests advice from the show, my own personal experience and my knowledge of the yoga industry to answer these questions.

This week on the podcast, I'm chatting with the founder of American Power Yoga and Simplified Genetics, Kurt Johnsen. Kurt is based out of Dallas, and he shares the story of creating American Power Yoga over 15 years ago.

On this episode, Kurt shares the process of creating, growing and selling American Power Yoga, what he learned through running American Power Yoga, and the biggest business lessons he's learned through his career. We also chat about his new company Simplified Genetics, including where the idea came from, what it was like to start the business, and how it's grown over the last 2 years.

Have you ever caught yourself comparing yourself to the other people in the room while practicing yoga? Have you thought that maybe you're not good enough because you don't have enough Instagram followers? Have you thought about giving up on your business because your website doesn't look as good as your yoga teacher friend's does?

I've been there. On this episode, I'm sharing the danger of comparison and how comparison can truly be "the thief of joy" if we allow it. I share a few personal examples of where comparison has popped up in my personal and professional life and how I have shifted my perspective on comparison. I don't think it's possible to ever truly rid your life of comparison, but it is certainly possible to shift the way that you interpret comparison and deal with it.

On this episode, we talk about:

- Comparison in the yoga studio

- The danger of comparing yourself to others

- Why we need to stop comparing ourselves

- How to shift the way you think of comparison and turn it into an opportunity for growth

This is Carolyn's second time on the podcast, and I'm super excited to be chatting with her all the way from Livingstone, Zambia near Victoria Falls. Since the last time that Carolyn was on the podcast, she's taught yoga in India, Angola and now she's in Zambia teaching yoga and running yoga retreats.

One of the many things I love about Carolyn is her sense of adventure, and how with each move that she makes, she gets one step closer to her goal of opening a yoga and dance retreat. Her choice to move to Zambia is no different.

On this episode, Carolyn shares how she found yoga teaching jobs in Luanda, Angola, how she chooses where to travel to find teaching jobs, and what brought her to Zambia. She also shares how she has been able to set up up a continuous yoga retreat in Zambia, and what she has learned through this experience.

If you are considering starting a yoga retreat, and especially one in an international country, you don't want to miss this episode!

Enjoy!

Lauren Lapointe and I met through Udemy after we both launched courses on yoga. Since then, Lauren has put out 4 courses on Udemy and experimented with Skillshare, as well as is in the process of transferring her courses on her own website. Lauren has been quite successful with her online courses and has over 12,000 students between her 4 courses.

Online courses are a great way to get your name out there, to learn a new skill, to expand your audience, and to make some passive income, but it's a daunting task. There is so much to learn about microphones, lighting, what camera to use, what software to record with, and then how to market your course.

On this episode, Lauren shares how she created her courses and what she learned along the way. She shares the research that she did (and would recommend that you do as well) and what she's learned through her course development. Finally, Lauren and I chat about the pros and cons to each platform and marekt place, and how to convert your course to sales through strategic marketing.

If you are even remotely interested in starting an online course, you don't want to miss this episode!

Enjoy!

As well, I'm excited to announce that my boyfriend, Ryan and I have launched a new course on Udemy called Yoga for Men. This course teaches tight men and men that are new to yoga how to modify the most common yoga poses they will see in a flow class so that they can practice anywhere in a safe way.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this course, you can get it for only $25 using the promo code MBOM25 or clicking here!
